Pretend

Pretend

We both knew it was wrong. No matter what I did, I couldn’t stay away. His lips of rum and words of silk slithered closer to my neck. All I could think of was when did we get here? How did we let it get this far?

Our hands are running wild with hunger, desperately feeding needs that have not been met. His voice, husky in my ear, telling me he wants me. My body pressed against him in response. Neither of us cared who suffered at the expense of our desires. We reveled in the heat of one another as we knew our time would shortly end. It was time for him to get back to her and for me to get back to the one who waited for me.

Sitting in the car, taking in the frazzled sight of my image in the rearview mirror, I smoothed out my hair and glossed my lips. I took a deep breath, looking at my perfect house that held my perfect husband, and our perfect children, ready to live a life of pretend.

Camp NaNoWriMo 2016

camp-nano

Hello readers! It’s been a while. Please excuse me as I blow the dust off my blog….

School has kept me so busy and writing has just not been happening for me. I opted out of the last round of camp but I feel like I need to jump on board with the following round. My last novel is still incarcerated and I have some ideas for a new story. My fellow writer’s understand this struggle, I’m sure of it.

Ideas for new stories pop up all the time and I just need to get them down because you never know which will turn into that big shiny golden nugget. I am so ready and excited to participate in camp nano this year! I have decided to go with a 20,000 word count for the month. I’m sure I can stick to it as long as I manage my time wisely and keep coffee brewing ;).

Are you interested in camping with some of the most creative people from all around the world? Click HERE and join the rest of us campers! Don’t forget to stop by the merch shop. There is always something to help inspire or simply scratch the itch for a good book-ish/writer’s novelty item :).

And so my friends, I leave you with a meme. Cause who doesn’t love a good meme?

Writing 101: A Life Without Music?

Day 15

“Without music, life would be a mistake.”

— Friedrich Nietzsche

Life without music is a life I do not want to imagine. I often throw personal dance parties in my house when I’m feeling like I’m in a funk. When writing feels like it’s become harder than it is for me I pop my ear-buds in and lose myself to the beat.

When choosing my tunes, It has to bring my story to life. I write a lot of contemporary pieces; depending on the scene, I like to listen to Coldplay, Lana Del Rey, Christina Perri, The Weekend, Late Night Alumni, and once in a while I listen to opera.

Music is a form of expression and I can’t go a day without it!

Writing 101: Day 13: Compose A Series of Vignettes; “In Another Life”

in-another-life

In another life, Ella would have been happy. Jack would be by her side, holding her close to him, whispering in her ear how much he needed her, how much he loved her. She loved the feel of his breath on her skin. The heat of their closeness sent chills down her body and awakened an urge deep inside.

In another life, Jack would be standing in front of her, tugging at the hem of her shirt, pulling it over her head. Ella following his lead with her arms above her with her heart thumping like a beat of a drum. As Ella’s shirt hit the floor, Jack’s lips are on hers like bees to sweet honey.

In another life, Ella would have been driving to the beach. She wouldn’t have let him drink so much. They wouldn’t have had that argument. She would have fought harder to keep him at the house where they could have stayed in bed, losing each other in their fiery touch. They would have fallen asleep in each others arms.

In another life, Jack would have seen the car cutting him off in time. The car wouldn’t have flipped in the blink of an eye. Ella’s screams wouldn’t have been the last sound he would ever hear again. Jack’s lifeless body wouldn’t have been pulled out of a mangled car. Ella wouldn’t have been screaming for her love as she fought paramedics into unconsciousness.

In another life, Ella would remember who she was. She wouldn’t spend her days in a cold room with strangers dressed in white, telling her that she was lucky to be alive. Staring into a mirror for hours on end, Ella willed her memory to return. Where did her golden locks come from? What did these hazel eyes see in twenty-three years of life? She would know why she dreamt of a dark-haired man who knew how to touch her in ways that brightened the darkness of her memories.

Writing 101: Playing With Word Count

Day 12

Not My Type

He stood there staring with his dark eyes. Pretending to be interested in my cup, I looked into it wishing I hadn’t worn the red lipstick. I grabbed a napkin from the table behind me and there she was, staring with eyes of gold, pulling me into her beauty.
