Let’s admit it, getting kids to eat healthy is not always easy. If you have a child that eats whatever you give him/her then that’s great and… What’s your secret? 😉
My two girls give me trouble with vegetables so I often have to get creative. While my five year old had mastered making “the perfect sandwich” as she calls it, my one year old didn’t seem to be in the mood for anything.
I decided to pull out a container of fresh organic fruit I left in the freezer over night and try giving her a smoothie.
Kale and broccoli have both easily become two of my favorites veggies and I figured I’d throw them in the smoothie in hopes of tricking her tastebuds.
Let’s get to the ingredients, shall we? 🙂
1 cup of Kale
1 large broccoli
1 large banana (frozen)
5 sliced strawberries (frozen)
1.5 cups of soy milk
1 tablespoon of melted organic unrefined coconut oil
Handful of ice cubes **Optional**
I’m a veggie head so naturally I LOVED it! The real challenge was the little one.
I am happy to say that baby Zoey drank all 8 ounces and enjoyed every bit! 😉
The smoothie had quite a bit of green to it but the banana and strawberries added enough sweetness to mask the green taste. No sugar is needed and let’s face it, sugar is BAD! If you absolutely must have sugar then go for a healthier alternative and try stevia, raw organic honey, organic agave, or my favorite, organic coconut sugar.
*Important Note* When looking for a sugar alternative you must be sure they are raw organic ingredients! If they are not then it’s no different than adding bleached sugar. It’s been chemically modified and we don’t want to put any of that in our bodies and much less, our children!
So, drink up the goodness and share it with the little ones! This recipe is sure to keep your little one asking for more!
