Writing 101: A Life Without Music?

Day 15

“Without music, life would be a mistake.”

— Friedrich Nietzsche

Life without music is a life I do not want to imagine. I often throw personal dance parties in my house when I’m feeling like I’m in a funk. When writing feels like it’s become harder than it is for me I pop my ear-buds in and lose myself to the beat.

When choosing my tunes, It has to bring my story to life. I write a lot of contemporary pieces; depending on the scene, I like to listen to Coldplay, Lana Del Rey, Christina Perri, The Weekend, Late Night Alumni, and once in a while I listen to opera.

Music is a form of expression and I can’t go a day without it!

Writing 101: Day 13: Compose A Series of Vignettes; “In Another Life”

in-another-life

In another life, Ella would have been happy. Jack would be by her side, holding her close to him, whispering in her ear how much he needed her, how much he loved her. She loved the feel of his breath on her skin. The heat of their closeness sent chills down her body and awakened an urge deep inside.

In another life, Jack would be standing in front of her, tugging at the hem of her shirt, pulling it over her head. Ella following his lead with her arms above her with her heart thumping like a beat of a drum. As Ella’s shirt hit the floor, Jack’s lips are on hers like bees to sweet honey.

In another life, Ella would have been driving to the beach. She wouldn’t have let him drink so much. They wouldn’t have had that argument. She would have fought harder to keep him at the house where they could have stayed in bed, losing each other in their fiery touch. They would have fallen asleep in each others arms.

In another life, Jack would have seen the car cutting him off in time. The car wouldn’t have flipped in the blink of an eye. Ella’s screams wouldn’t have been the last sound he would ever hear again. Jack’s lifeless body wouldn’t have been pulled out of a mangled car. Ella wouldn’t have been screaming for her love as she fought paramedics into unconsciousness.

In another life, Ella would remember who she was. She wouldn’t spend her days in a cold room with strangers dressed in white, telling her that she was lucky to be alive. Staring into a mirror for hours on end, Ella willed her memory to return. Where did her golden locks come from? What did these hazel eyes see in twenty-three years of life? She would know why she dreamt of a dark-haired man who knew how to touch her in ways that brightened the darkness of her memories.

Writing 101: Playing With Word Count

Day 12

Not My Type

He stood there staring with his dark eyes. Pretending to be interested in my cup, I looked into it wishing I hadn’t worn the red lipstick. I grabbed a napkin from the table behind me and there she was, staring with eyes of gold, pulling me into her beauty.

Writing 101: Reinvent The Letter Format; A Letter To My Younger Self

Day 9

Dear fourteen year old me,

This is a letter of apology. This is a letter of unprofessed love. This is a letter of warning, of empowerment, and of assurance.

Life is going to suck for a while. This is the cold truth and I wish it were different. You will go through things that no teen should. Things that no human being should go through but you will survive them. You will feel like no one cares, like you are not loved. Oh but sweet child, you are very loved and there are people who care and will show you the love you deserve. It will take time to get to this place. You will be an adult and have children of your own when you get there but darlin’, you will get there.

You will get lost along the way but you are so much stronger than you know. I’m so sorry you weren’t hugged enough.

I’m sorry you weren’t told, “I love you” enough. I’m sorry you were left alone and it will cause you to find attention in dark shadows, in beautifully masked demons that will hold you back from shining like the bright light you are.

I’m sorry that you will be sad for so many years and point fingers at all the wrong people.

Sweet girl, you are beautiful inside and out and you have something special to offer the world. You will have two beautiful girls that will drive you mad but are worth it all. Waking up to their smiles will give you strength and hope for a beautiful future. You will have people in your life that will help you be the best version of you and remind you why you are the awesome and most unique you. There is only one you and never wish to be anyone but. You may wish to disappear from the world in which you live, the darkness will frighten you to the bone but you are brighter than that darkness. Your inner strength equals to a thousand men, although you may not feel it. You will survive, you will live and give life. You will inspire and motivate others. You will make positive changes in the world and help build a happy home.

You will smile, you will be hugged and told, “I love you” every single day.

With Love,

Me

Writing 101: Expand A Comment

Day 8

You can go here to check out the comment that the lovely JoHanna Massey left on my blog.

Wise? Who? Wait, Me?

Most of the time I pretty much spill a lot of word vomit and hope no one drowns in it while coming across my blog.

To be able to get any reaction at all is pretty awesome but to have people really like what you have to say even when you think you’re having one of those “meh” kind of days, it’s absolutely humbling and my heart just swells with happiness. No, seriously. My heart is on the verge of exploding rainbow-colored confetti and smiling emoji’s.

So, thank you for simply browsing even if you’re not actually reading 🙂
