Flat Hair? Never!

For a long time I’ve struggled with patience. I detest waiting and being stuck in a tedious situation (as most do). It’s a trait I’m working on, sort of anyway. So, drying thick curly hair is just one of those tedious things I dread. I have never enjoyed blowing out my hair because it would just take far too long. I’m talking more than an hour here.  So I would just flip my head over and dry it while forking my fingers through it because I found it to be an easier task than blowing it out by sections. I grabbed my handy Chi flat-iron and would straighten my curly mess to a sleek look. However, it often looked a little too sleek. Let’s just call it flat. Like a dead thing on my head.

I went on this way until I came across a brush that now makes blowing out my hair a much easier task than I could have ever imagined. This wonder brush cuts my blow drying time in half and gives my hair volume and shine. What more could a girl ask for? Although, I will say my arm gets a bit tired but hey, it’s a nice workout and worth it at that.

Now, while having a good brush is ideal, having the right blow dryer is important as well. Expect to spend a little more than you normally would. Remember, quality is key here! If you buy something cheap you might just have to purchase another one sooner than you would a more expensive and better working dryer.

With that said, let me introduce you to my stylists….

IMG_3246These two items have saved my hair and my time! The brush is by Cricket and it is a thermal brush with a barrel size of 3 1/4 inches. It has heat-resistant and static free bristles (Yay!!). No need to rub a sheet of fabric softener on your head. Just a little beauty hack for those who didn’t know ;).

This brush is large enough to take large sections of my long hair and with the added power of my blow dryer, it’s dry in no time!

The blow dryer is by BaByliss Pro. It’s smooth and rubberized all around for comfortability. Although it is a bit on the heavy side, it’s not bothersome since your  time is cut a lot shorter. This blower is powerful but will not fry and helps eliminate frizz as well. I’m absolutely pleased with these purchases and I have to say that I no longer use the flat-iron on the length of my hair. I do however, use the iron on my bangs from time to time.

For all of you who are in search for shiny voluminous locks while saving time, give these a try! If you do, please let me know how it worked for you and if you have any suggestions for me, please share!!

Did I forget Something?

IMG_3244Yesterday was a very unsuccessful day, in the literary sense, that is. Unfortunately, the math exam I took Sunday evening was an absolute flop. I was brain-dead after that and although I’m in love with my current read, I couldn’t bring myself to read either. I talked it over with my husband that night when he came home from work and thought I was over it. Yesterday however, I did what I usually do as part of my morning routine after breakfast and some inversions. I set my coffee down on the table along with my laptop, my planner, current read, favorite pen, and journal (yes, people still have those!).

As I set up my work space I simply didn’t feel inspired or moved in any way, shape, or form to work on any of those things that give me such joy. The failure of my exam still haunted my thoughts throughout the day and didn’t allow me to concentrate. While I felt I had yet failed in another way, completely pushing writing and reading to the side, I dove in to the girls’ room and knocked out some more packing so I suppose that’s a plus. There’s still so much to do and we only have days left here.

The end of the day had arrived and I was still lugging my laptop around in hopes of getting a post up but it just didn’t happen. My husband came home from work and although we tried going to sleep early, we were consumed by pillow talk for hours. I’m sure there are many people who feel the same when I say this. It brings my heart such happiness that he and I are still able to hold conversations of even the silliest things. The point is that we do talk and neither one of us gets bored.

I can honestly say that whatever shadows I dragged with me to bed last night were destroyed by my husbands light and I felt nothing but utter happiness and love. I slept with a smile and woke up with a light load, ready to get words down.

So again, my love has saved me from myself and doesn’t even know it. Now here I am, music filling the house, children happily playing without a care in the world (other than trying to get their hands on those cookies in the pantry), and I’m ready to fill my page with posts.

I also want to take a moment to thank those who have followed my page and actually read these posts. It means a great deal, more than anyone will ever know, that there are people who take time out of their busy lives to read my words.

I welcome all feedback and suggestions on making my posts better to entertain YOU! My readers!

Thank you!

The Yoga Journey

I really never got into yoga until last year and it wasn’t easy. I set up a routine for myself so I can practice every morning and do some deep stretching in the evenings. I went on like these for months and I was astonished at what my body could do! I started to believe that I could be just as good and flexible as any of those awesome yogi’s I saw on Instagram.

By the end of the year however, I began to deal with some personal struggles that did not give me the ability to practice every day. I went from daily practices to four and then to none. It took a serious toll on my emotionally and physically. Being active is known to kick your serotonin levels up to the sky and let’s just say mine were not where they needed to be.

Recently I have been in a better place emotionally so I jumped back into practicing expecting my body to have forgotten everything I learned.

To my surprise, my body fell right into place as if I had never stopped and it was great! I felt happier instantly and once again I’m back on my yogi journey, enjoying every pose along the way! Even if I am constantly getting interrupted by my littlest one.

FullSizeRender-8My sweet little Zoey jumping on mommy in mid wheel pose! After many tries, this happened….

FullSizeRender-5Getting to this position was a lot harder than I thought and when I tried to gracefully land I fell down like a tree! hahaha

It was my first time really falling from a pose and now that I experienced it, the fear of falling is less of a burden when I’m upside down hahaha.

It’s a great experience and never feel like you have failed if (or should I say when) you fall because it will happen and it’s all part of the journey and growing, becoming a much stronger and confident you!

There is a power in practicing yoga that I never understood and wondered what the hype was all about. Well, now I completely understand and I can’t wait to see where I will be in my journey years from now.

Processed with VSCOcam with lv03 presetIncluding my babies in the practice is important to me because I want them to enjoy it as well. To be honest though, once they see mommy roll out the mat, they come running to join and I just laugh. It’s the cutest thing watching them do their best.

camel pose namasteIt’s amazing what we are capable of if we only allow ourselves the chance.

FullSizeRender-6FullSizeRender-7In conclusion, I want to say, whatever your journey is, never stop pushing through and reaching your goals. Above all, enjoy it until the end!

Attention Writers!! Camp NaNoWriMo is around the corner!

Camp-Participant-2015-Web-Banner

Get your bags ready! Camp NaNoWriMo is less than two weeks away and cabins are getting filled quickly! While there is less pressure when participating in camp nano, it is still a great opportunity to get to know others who love writing as much as you do and get into the habit of writing daily.

Now, if you don’t know what NaNoWriMo is, it stands for National Novel Writing Month. Thousands of writers join together in November and attempt to write 50,000 words. Pretty crazy goal for 30 days don’t you think? Well, I attempted to win last year and made it to 23,000 words. While that did not get me to the finish line, it was still a great accomplishment because I started my very first novel! There were many sleepless nights filled with overwhelming creativity. It was both stressful and wonderful in so many ways.

Camp nano however, is in the month of April and July this year and you choose your own goal for the month. I’m taking the opportunity to meet more writing buddies and continue the novel I started in November. I gave myself a goal of 20,000 words which I am hoping to meet since I think it might be steep considering I am taking a math (ugh) course and will be consumed by unpacking and getting settled in our new home.

When is a really good time to write anyway right? I mean, we all have something going on in our lives. So I am going to juggle it all and get my novel closer to the end!

I’m excited to meet more writers and encourage each other to keep tapping keyboards and pens (or pencils) moving!

If there is anyone interested in participating, please click on the link below!

Late Night Studying Gone Wrong

I mentioned in my previous posts that I am in the process of moving so things are a bit crazy (messy) at home. On top of that, my youngest has gone absolutely mad! Completely off the wall! Her mood swings are not to be taken lightly so needless to say, there isn’t much studying going on while she’s awake. After fighting her sleepy eyes for what seemed like forever, she finally gave up at around midnight (yes, I know!).

So, although I still have tons to get packed I decide to push that aside and get to studying so I don’t fail the coming exam miserably.

After about an hour of looking at my e-textbook at equations like the image below (nope, not exaggerating).

The numbers began to fly off the screen leaving me without a brain.

I closed my computer and decided to do what I do best. Read!!! I mean, hello people!! I’m an English major! Why give me this evil math course!!

I easily settled back into my current read, The Bronze Horseman by Paullina Simmons. Oh and it’s so very good right now! I don’t want it to ever end!

Good thing it’s a big read and a trilogy no less! It’s an epic love story that is highly recommended and mind you, I haven’t even finished the first book yet! But when I have many reactions like this….

I have a difficult time believing the excitement will die anytime soon.

Who else is enjoying their current read?

Oh, and if you haven’t read The Bronze Horseman, please go pick it up!! The pages will consume you!

Lasting Love – Interactive Poetry

This is beautiful!

A few days ago, I decided I would start doing some interactive poetry. I got a surprising number of responses and I’m excited to get started!
The first words I chose to write about were feather, phantom, and lasting. Mostly because they seemed pretty random and I was curious as to how I could get them to work together. They were given to me by Chellzybellzz!

This breeze,
blowing softly through
brushes away
the memory of you.

You’re a feather,
lost in the wind.
Floating through the air,
like it was all just pretend.

Our love was like a phantom
fading into the past.
We both knew it would happen.
We both knew it wouldn’t last.

But now that you’re gone,
my wearied heart can look above.
I can finally trust
that I’ll one day, have a lasting love.
